About Hohai University
Established in 1915, Hohai University (HHU) already has a century-old history. Under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Education, HHU has upgraded itself with good momentum of development in hydraulic engineering and water resources as its main focus, education of engineering subjects as its first priority, and coordinated development of a wide array of disciplines. It’s a state key university under the “Double First-Rate” discipline plan, with national level innovation platforms as well as the graduate school.
HHU has been carrying out international communication and cooperation actively and built close relationships with more than 80 first-class universities and research institutes around the world. It’s the first batch of universities authorized to grant doctoral, master and bachelor's degrees to international students and has cultivated thousands of international talents till now.
Qualification
Non-Chinese citizen with a valid passport, physically and mentally healthy, abide by Chinese laws and regulations, respect Chinese traditions and customs. Chinese citizens who have obtained foreign nationalities shall follow the relevant regulation of Ministry of Education of China.
The master's applicant should have a bachelor degree or equivalent one, under age 35; the doctoral applicant should have a master degree or equivalent one, under age 40.
Majors
International students taught in Chinese will be cultivated according to Hohai University graduate programs. International students taught in English will be cultivated according to Hohai University English graduate programs.

Education Duration
Hohai carries out a flexible schooling system. The standard doctoral program is 4 years, the duration is minimum 3 years and no more than 6 years. The standard academic master's program is 3 years, the duration is minimum 2 years and no more than 5 years.

Pay the application fee 400RMB (not refunded).
Application Documents
1. Scan copy of the passport (Valid after Aug.30, 2022);
2. Scan copies of the original diploma and degree (Chinese or English version); Those to be graduated should provide the proof of graduation from current school;
3. Scan copy of the original transcript with all the courses (Chinese or English version);
4. Scan copies of the China related visa and residence permit, including all the study experiences. Upload your passport instead if there isn't any;
5. Curriculum vitae or study plan, including study& work experience, academic achievement, future development, etc. 400-800 words;
6. HSK 6 certificate for Chinese taught programs, corresponding English proficiency certificate for English taught programs;
7. Two recommendation letters from associate or above professors in the relevant field;
8. Foreigner physical examination form. The applicant shall complete all the items as listed. The result is valid for 6 months.
9. Financial proof (either the family deposit certificate, property certificate or parent/guardian income certificate, over $5000 suggested);
10. The abstract and content of the applicant's thesis published if there's any;
11. Non-criminal record.

Accommodation: 9600-24,000RMB/year subjects to different conditions on Xikang Road Campus; 12,000RMB/month/single room on Jiangning Campus.
The international students must take out insurance as required by the relevant policy of both the country and university.
70% of the tuition can be refunded if quitting within 2 weeks after the registration, settled in RMB, by submitting the hard copy of an application and the invoice. No refund after 2 weeks. The expelled students due to violation of school rules and regulations should not get any refund.
Scholarships:
1. Chinese Government Scholarship
1) Bilateral Program (Type A)
Bilateral Program includes a full or partial scholarship established by MOE in accordance with educational exchange agreements or consensus between Chinese government and governments of other countries, institutions, universities or international organizations.
Hohai University doesn't accept this type of application. Instead, a pre-admission will be provided for the qualified candidate to facilitate the application.

2) Chinese University Program (Type B)
The applicant shall complete the China Scholarship Council online application (Agency Number: 10294) on http://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn as well as the Hohai University online application.
It's up to the annual review result of the Chinese government scholarship whether the candidate will be continuously sponsored.
2. Hohai University Scholarship
The Hohai University scholarship is annual reviewed, based on the candidate's academic and comprehensive performances. The result will be updated each academic year.
1) The first class scholarship includes tuition, on campus accommodation, comprehensive insurance and monthly allowance.
2) The second class scholarship includes tuition and on campus accommodation.
3) The third class scholarship includes tuition.
3. Nanjing Municipal Government Scholarship
The scholarship is 20,000RMB/year (Annual Review).
The applicant shall download “the Application Form for Nanjing Government Scholarship”, complete and upload on Hohai application system.
Dormitory
The doctoral students in the College of Hydrology and Water Resources, the College of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering, the College of Harbor, Coastal and Offshore Engineering, the College of Civil and Transportation Engineering, the College of Environment, the College of Oceanography will live on Xikang Road Campus. The others will live on Jiangning campus. The facilities include the bed, mattress, desk, closet, chair, hot water, internet access, toilet and public laundry room.
Admission and Announcement
The admission is based on the educational background, courses and scores, publication, study plan, ect. The University will contact those who're admitted and send out the admission notices and visa forms.
Visa Application and Registration
Those who’re enrolled shall submit the admission notice, visa application for studying in China (JW201/202 Form), physical report and blood test report to local Chinese Embassy or Consulate to apply a student (X1) visa to China. The applicant shall register at Hohai University within the appointed time on the admission notice. The applicant who doesn’t obtain the required degree or certificate as descried on the proof of graduation by Sep. 2021 will be canceled of registration. Those who failed in the entry test will be canceled of registration.
The specific registration way and time will be sent via official email and notification under the pandemic.
