The China-ASEAN Youth Talents Exchange Program on Water Resources & "Experience Water Conservancy in China"

The China-ASEAN Youth Talents Exchange Program on Water Resources &“Experiencing Water Conservancy in China” was held in Nanjing, Tianjin and Beijing from 23 to 25thNovember, 2018. This program was Co-sponsored by the Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation Center and Hohai University; this program offered participants a variety of subject lectures including field trips at prestigious Water Resources Design and Management Center e.g. Nanjing Automation Institute of Water Conservancy and Hydrology in Nanjing, China Water Resources Beifang Investigation, Design and Research Co. Ltd.(BIDR) in Tianjin, State Power Investment Corporation Limited(SPIC), Construction and Administration Bureau of South to North water Diversion Middle Route Project and Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation Center (LMWRCC) in Beijing.A total of 32Students from 9 different Countries across South-East Asia participated in this event.

The three-day event started on 23th November, 2018.  Students attended some lectureas well as visitedthe Laboratory facilities of Nanjing Automation Institute of Water Conservancy and Hydrology in Nanjing.

Students paid visit to BIDR in Tianjin

On the second day of Trip, Students paid visit to China Water Resources Beifang Investigation, Design and Research Co. Ltd.(BIDR) in Tianjin. The Students Group learned practical knowledge by visiting BIDR site Facilities. Students also attended a small video workshop about 3D GIS modeling at BIDR GIS Lab. Mr. Fan Rui, Vice Dean of International School, Hohai University gave a speech during morning session at BIDR, Tianjin.One Student from Vietnam also expressed her feelings and expectations during the Trip.

During afternoon, Students attended a Cultural Exchange Festival. Students from different countries showed their Traditional and Cultural activities such as Singing, Dancing, Reciting Poem etc. They also took part in different games. The group of Students also visited some scenic spots in Tianjin City like Tianjin Eye.

On 25th November, 2018 the Final day of Trip, Students were welcomed by Secretary General of Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation Center in Beijing. At first, Students attended introduction lectures about South to North water Diversion Middle Route Project. Students got valuable Technical knowledge about water diversion project as well as water resources management systems in China.

The Students Team was highly delighted by visiting State Power Investment Corporation Limited(SPIC).  The authority of SPIC welcomed students and gave brief presentation including video clips about overall achievements of SPIC especially in foreign countries in Energy sector.    Students also took part in interactive questions and learning session at SPIC.

In the afternoon on 25th November students paid visit to Principal office of Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation Center in Beijing.  The group of Students attended a seminar about Water Resources Management along Lancang-Mekong River Basin Countries as well as the achievements of   LMWRCC in presence of Dr. Zhing Yong, Secretary General of LMWRCC and Mr. Fan Rui, Vice Dean of International School, Hohai University.

They both expressed their willingness to extend further strong cooperation between LMWRCC and Hohai University. Representatives from IWHR, CHINCOLD, BITC and BIC also presented their working activities and achievements along South East Asian Countries.

Students from Myanmar and Lao PDR expressed their gratitude’s towards LMWRCC and Hohai University for providing such kind of valuable field trips.



The students’ interaction and appreciation during the Field Trip is summarized as below:



The knowledge obtained during this field tour and visits has provided us with an enormous amount of practical experience and professional knowledge in water resource management projects, water diversion and design projects, its socio-economic relevance to development, and how it guarantees sustainability of livelihoods in Northern part of China. Above all, it made a long-lasting impression on us regarding how we can help our respective Countries learn from such a wonderful Chinese Project.Last but not the least, Students highly praised about the facilities provided by   Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Corporation Center and they hope this bonding will be stronger in the future.”
